On Thursday the US Senate approved a bill authorising the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, but opted not to vote on an amendment proposed by John McCain.

In a statement the American Maritime Partnership (AMP), a trade organisation that bills itself as the voice of the domestic maritime industry, applauded the development.

“The decision not to offer or vote on the amendment to repeal the Jones Act on the Keystone XL Pipeline legislation, an amendment that relied on flawed data and factual omissions, showed that it would have been overwhelmingly defeated because of the law’s rock solid support in Congress,” said AMP chairman Tom Allegretti.
