Many wines are not bottled until the last few metres of their journey to the customer - and spend most of it in so-called flexitanks as they are transported around the world on container ships, according to Hapag Lloyd.
The German liner giant says it transports around 100,000-teu of wine on its ships every year. This equates to 288m litres of wine.
