Japan’s Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) has unveiled a new bow design for its next-generation car carriers in a bid to cut emissions further.

The rounded hull shape for the four Flexie ships - due from Minaminippon Shipbuilding from 2017 – will minimise wind resistance, the company said.

It believes CO2 emissions will be cut by 2% compared to current vehicle carriers.

The design is the brainchild of MOL, MOL Techno-Trade and Akishima Laboratories.
