Svein Steimler has been appointed president and CEO of NYK Europe, becoming the first non-Japanese to hold such a role in the company's 131-year history.
He succeeds Takuji Nakai on 1 April.
Steimler also joins the board of the International Chamber of Shipping, representing the Japanese Shipowners’ Association.
He joined NYK in 1998 to boost growth in the car and bulk trades in Europe.
