Volkswagen Group has disclosed that it plans to charter two LNG-powered pure car and truck carriers (PCTC) from Siem Car Carriers.
The car manufacturer said the vessels will be deployed for vehicle shipments between Europe and North America.
Siem Car Carriers is said to have submitted a proposal that was “convincing in economic and environmental terms”, according to Volkswagen.
The new ships will replace two of the nine conventional heavy fuel oil (HFO) powered vessels currently used on the route from 2019 onwards.
