A Greek handymax and a Japanese handysize bulker have been detained in the US after failing separate port state control (PSC) inspections.

The ships involved are Karklog Shipping’s 47,282-dwt Amber L (built 2000) and the Shunzan Kaiun-controlled 33,680-dwt Atlantic Ruby (built 2012).

The US Coast Guard (USCG) said both vessels were held after officials discovered what were described as “substandard safety issues”.
