An anchor punctured one of the ballast tanks on the 440-person Floatel Superior (built 2010), the Petroleum Safety Authority said.
The vessel was stationed in the Njord field off Norway.
A total of 374 people were taken from the unit, owned by Sweden's Floatel International.
