Filipino crew poisoned

Three seafarers have been airlifted from a cargoship in Denmark after suffering severe gas poisoning.

The Filipino trio had been working in a hold on the 46,000–dwt Atalanta (built 1999) that had been cleaned with gases, Maritime Danmark reported.

The ship was docked in Aarhus when the incident took place on Sunday.

The men's condition was said to be so bad the ship's captain refused an offer from the Aarhus port authority to take the crew ashore and instead requested a helicopter.

They were reportedly stable in hospital.

An investigation has begun. The vessel is operated by NSC of Germany.
