A major rescue operationis under way to find eight other men who are missing after the collision whichsunk one of the ships.
Emiroglu’s 13,200-dwt Pirireis (built 1979) sunk just seven minutes after coming into contact with the 789-teu Consouth (built 1998), a spokesperson for the coastguard says.
Conditions were fair when the accident happened and remain clear as five rescue ships and a helicopter search for survivors.
