Lighter vessel sinks

A lighter vessel has sunk in Bangladesh after hitting a wreck.

The Brishti went down with 950 tonnes of cement clinker on board in Chittagong on Thursday.

All 13 crew were rescued by a speedboat and crew from another ship anchored nearby soon after the accident, local media said.

Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) said the ship was returning to the jetty of Diamond Cement after taking clinker from the 67,000-dwt Peng Xing Da (built 1983).

The vessel sank as cracks developed on its bottom, after it hit parts of a sunken ship named as Rita.
