The US Coast Guard said today that 19 men aboard the 35,400-dwtJS Comet (built 1999) were in need of medical assistance.

The South Korean-flag vessel is anchored off Cape Canaveral. Rescue teams from Air Station Clearwater are en route to airlift all of the crew members who have fallen ill, Coast Guard Petty Officer Jon-Paul Rios tells TradeWinds.

“Due to deteriorating weather conditions and the condition of the vessel’s crew, the Coast Guard has decided to dispatch aircrews and medical personnel to the ship to medevac members of the crew in need of immediate medical assistance,” the agency said.
