Sekimizu cited personal reasons for the decision not to extend his term in office. His wife has been seriously ill and, although she is recovering, Sekimizu said he needed to make a commitment to her care.
Speaking candidly in his regular blog Sekimizu said: “My core reason for not seeking reappointment is that if she becomes unwell again in the future, that could affect my duty and responsibilities and I may have to compromise my work, in order to ensure her care.
