The German owner said there was an impact between its 8,749-teu Colombo Express (built 2005) and the 8,112-teu Maersk Tanjong (built 2007) at Port Said.
The Hapag-Lloyd ship was entering the Canal at the time, it added.
No injuries or pollution have been reported.
Ship agent Inchcape Shipping Services said Maersk Tanjong was clearing the Suez Canal Container terminal to join a convoy.
