The 2,400-dwt Mutha Pioneer (built 1984) got stuck off Thilafushi island on Wednesday.
The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) said it was pulled free by a tug later that day.
The ship had offloaded cargo at Gaaf Dhaal Atoll on Tuesday.
Any environmental damage will now be investigated by the authorities.
The ship is operated by Mohan Mutha Translogistics of Chennai.
