A DFDS cargoship grounded on rocks off Scotland after an officer drank half a litre of rum following a distressing phone call.

The UK’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) said the 7,500-dwt Lysblink Seaways (built 2000) went aground at full speed on 18 February near Kilchoan en route from Belfast to Skogn in Norway.

The vessel remained on the rocky foreshore for almost two days during adverse weather, spilling 25 tonnes of gas oil, and was so badly damaged it was later scrapped.
