The Australia-chartered icebreaker Aurora Australis has gone aground in Antarctica.

The 6,600-gt vessel (built 1989) got stuck just off Mawson Station on a resupply mission.

ABC reported that the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) confirmed the ship had broken free of its mooring lines during a blizzard on Wednesday afternoon.

A total of 67 travellers and crew were on board, but no injuries were reported.
