An Italian ferry has partially sunk after hitting a pier in Stromboli.

The 224–gt Masaccio (built 1998) went down during docking on 16 June, local media said.

It was carrying 117 passengers and six crew. All except the master and chief officer, who stayed on board, were safely evacuated.

The ferry became stuck under the pier with the bow partially submerged.

It is operated by Societa Navigazione Siciliana.
