Maersk’s EUR 2.3bn ($2.8bn) takeover of P&O-Nedlloyd (PONL) has been given the go-ahead by the European Commission (EC) , but it is conditional on the sale of PONL’s South Africa-Europe service and its withdrawal from unspecified consortia and conferences.
A deal appears to have been struck between the Danish giant and Brussels, the exact details which have yet to emerge, but there is strong betting that Maerk’s offer to withdraw PONL from all consortia has clinched the approval.
