Extreme volatility in the bulk markets appeared to scare off capesize owners and charterers again today as the market witnessed its third straight day without fixtures in the big-ship segment.

A flurry of short-term panamax fixtures kept the market busy, however, though overall rates were down somewhat on the start of the week.

The news was better in the supramax market, where a quiet day only served to reinforce the recent firmness enjoyed by owners.
