Top mining group Xstrata has joined the list of shippers protesting at congestion at the Australian port of Newcastle.

The Swiss mining company, which is a leading exporter of coal through the New South Wales port, warned that congestion is adding $0.80 a ton of demurrage costs to overheads.

As it reported its financial result for 2003 this morning Xstrata said it was getting a FOB price of $26.75
