A fast-growing Chinese steel player has bought a handysize bulk carrier in another play that could boost its control over its iron ore shipments.
Rizhao Steel has paid $34.9m for the 18,300-dwt Changi Hope (built 2000), brokers report Friday.
The vessel was last reported sold in December for $29m to $30m to unnamed Greek buyers.
TradeWinds reported in December that newcomer Rizhao Steel has already bought a capesize and two panamaxes, and it has investment in port facilities in a bid to manage its own iron ore imports.
