Malaysian authorities briefly prevented a North Korean cargoship from docking this week as it investigated compliance with UN sanctions.

Reuters cited maritime officials and a port worker as saying the 6,800-dwt Kum Ya (built 1991) was later allowed to dock with its 6,300 tonnes of anthracite coal.

It was boarded by an inspection team together with an armed escort.

A breach of sanctions was initially suspected, according to marine authority MMEA's deputy director-general of operations Zulkifli Abu Bakar.
