Skaarup Shipping Corp, once a major player in Connecticut maritime circles, is today all but removed from the shipping sector, focusing quietly on another pursuit — the leasing of office space.

Ole Skaarup, the company's late founder who was regarded as the "Father of the Modern Bulker", retreated from the industry in 2008 after surviving a near-fatal heart attack.

"It was his wish to liquidate or sell everything because he knew the risks of shipping were huge and he wanted to preserve his family's wealth," chief executive Frank Parker says.
