Capesize rate reversals continued today, extending a slide that has now seen earnings fall by over a quarter in the past week.
The Baltic Exchange today pegged rates for modern 180,000-dwt bulkers at $10,354 per day, down from $14,300 per day a week ago.
Rates for smaller 172,000-dwt ships were today back below $10,000 daily.
“Despite a busier Atlantic market, capesize bulker rates remain under significant pressure as charterers begin to focus on January loadings,” wrote analysts at Clarksons Platou Securities.
