China’s Shagang Shipping has handed back the 177,700-dwt Houston (built 2009) almost a year ahead of schedule citing a breach of contract by the owner, the New York-listed company said today.
Diana has rubbished the claims, saying the charterers have missed numerous payments on the contract which was first signed in November 2009 at a daily rate of $55,000.
According to the deal the earliest possible termination date is 3 October, 2014, Diana says.
