In an email to clients Jeffrey Landsberg of Commodore Research pointed out that 37 bulkers were hired to haul iron ore cargoes to Chinese buyers for the week ended 25 July.
The total, which included 35 capes, marks a record for 2014 and represents a level of activity the likes of which has not been seen since September 2013, the forecaster continued.
