Arctic Securities analyst Erik Nikolai Stavseth says Indian coal imports could increase 30% this year as domestic growth in production is set to fall short of the rising demand.

“Domestic miners continue to face production challenges and have failed to reach their production targets,” he said in a note to investors Monday.

“Coal stocks at Indian power generators have reached critical levels, with 45 of 100 coal based power plants monitored by India’s central Electricity Authority having stocks of less than seven days.

“Indian
