They have been stranded on the 6,300-dwt Panama-flagged Phoenix Sun (built 1972), after their employer left them penniless in Sorel-Tracy, close to Montreal.
A fundraising campaign launched by local authorities raised $10,000 to help them.
The Seafarers’ International Union of Canada provided them with food while Air Transat offered the sailors airplane tickets for Turkey.
Menpas Shipping, the Ontario-based company which has reportedly been their employer, has called the sailors’ allegations “false”.
