The company said the laid-up 24,100-dwt Free Impala (built 1997) had gone for $3.6m to reduce its borrowings with the National Bank of Greece (NBG), the mortgage holder and the company’s sole remaining lender.
TradeWinds reported earlier this month the vessel was reported sold at $3.5m.
FreeSeas bought the ship as African Impala together with sistership African Protea (renamed Free Knight, built 1998, also since sold) for a massive $76.75m
