The 29,700-dwt Juno (built 2011) grounded in the early morning near Wellesley Island, New York state, according to the US Coast Guard. There were no injuries or pollution.
The handysize ship, which was taking on water in one of its forward ballast tanks, was listing slightly to port in 5.5 metres of water, the agency said.
The Bahamas-flagged ship was headed inbound to Toronto with a load of sugar.
