Alexander Chuyko was found to be over the limit while in charge of the 4,200-dwt cargoship Vita (built 1990) on Monday in King's Lynn.
But West Norfolk magistrates told him he would be released if he paid off fines, the Eastern Daily Press reported.
Chuyko, 45, also pleaded guilty to failing to co-operate in providing a breath test.
George Sorrell, for Chuyko, said he went out drinking in the town after finding out his wife was unwell back in his home city of Kaliningrad.
