Shipowners' fortunes are on the rise globally, according to data from Forbes magazine, with many of the industry’s leading figures seeing their wealth increase during the past year.

Hapag-Lloyd shareholder Klaus-Michael Kuehne has taken 2017 bragging rights as the richest man in shipping, according to the latest list of billionaires. 

Kuehne’s fortune of $12.4bn ranks the 79-year-old as the 100th richest person on the planet but the most wealthy that the magazine directly connects to shipping.
