TOTE Maritime has emerged as the “blue-chip operating company” behind an order for four containerships at Philly Shipyard.

Both outfits confirmed today that they are jointly working on the project.

Philly Shipyard announced the letter of intent (LOI) for the construction of four ships a month ago, but did not reveal the name of the owner at the time.

TOTE confirmed its plans to establish a new domestic shipping service to Hawaii on Friday while it also intends to take control of the Kapalama container terminal in Honolulu.
