Rebounds in the dry cargo and container markets and a strong performance from its investment banking and project finance teams helped pushed up profitability at the world’s largest shipbroker Clarksons.

The upturn in its bottom line in 2017 was matched by a boost in its dividend, which was raised for the 15th year in succession.

James Hughes-Hallett, chairman of Clarksons, said: “This year the shipping market has displayed some early signs of a recovery following a sustained period of challenging trading conditions for the industry.
