The Australian company charters the 16,200-gt Athena (built 1948) from the Portuguese-controlled owner Classic International Cruises (CIC), which is a separate outfit.

But the ship is stuck in Marseille.

CIC Australia had been in talks with a German owner over a replacement vessel, but has been unable to finalise a deal.

Its Australian administrators Lawler Partners said bosses sought immediate advice in relation to CIC Australia’s financial affairs and then placed the company into administration.
