Ports director Jacob Thomas said the government will pay shipowners INR 1 ($0.02)for every tonne of cargo moved 1km.
So a 10,000-dwt shipment transported 100km will earn INR 1m.
He added: "Coastal vessels will enjoy a discount in port charges.Besides this, soft loans will also be provided to buy vessels, with an interestrate of 2% for 40% of the vessel cost and 10% for 80% of the vessel cost."
