Capesize spot rates added over $1,000 daily to reach $17,493 per day on Tuesday on the back of strong Chinese demand.
Jeffrey Landsberg of Commodore Research says the increased chartering interest has helped deplete the supply of vessels in the market.
He explains 30 vessels were chartered in the spot market last week to take iron ore to China, the seventh time this year that the figure has been reached.
