Nova Star Cruises began operating the route from Yarmouth to Portland, Maine, in May.
It has already received the CAD 21m of state funding earmarked for the first seven years of the run, CBC reported.
Passenger numbers were lower than expected for much of the summer, but the company met its target for August when more than 20,000 people used the service.
