Greek shipping is going through a period of pronounced fleet growth, but the number of shipping companies is shrinking.
Latest data compiled by Athens-based Petrofin Research showed that in the past year the number of companies shrank by 20 from 668 in 2014 to 648 this year.
The reduction comes mainly from the smaller companies with one to two-vessel fleets. Since 2011, Petrofin said, their total number has fallen by 25%, from 350 down to 262.
