Korea's finance minister Yoo Il-ho has warned 60,000 shipyard and shipping workers could lose their jobs by the end of next year.

Yards are restructuring in the order slump, running down capacity to cope with less work.

Yoo said the country needs 'pre-emptive' steps to respond quickly to global uncertainties, the Yonhap news agency reported.

"If corporate restructuring gains speed, some 60,000 workers are forecast to lose their jobs by the end of next year just in the shipbuilding and shipping sector," he said.
