The UK’s supreme court has overturned a verdict rejecting an insurance claim because the ship manager involved lied.
The court ruled that “collateral lies” in the case of the 5,150-dwt DC Merwestone (built 1974) did not affect the central EUR 3.24m ($3.55m) claim , which should be allowed, the Financial Times reported.
The verdict sparked widespread condemnation from mainstream insurers in the UK press, but the central vessel claim was not widely reported.
