The European Commission is still investigating a tax relief scheme involving shipyards in Spain, despite a General Court ruling in the shipbuilders’ favour.
EU Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager confirmed the probe is still open.
In December, the European Union’s General Court annulled a Commission decision declaring that the old Spanish Tax Lease (STL) system represented unlawful state aid.
Vestager said: “In its judgment, the General Court found that the Commission had not established that the tax measures used in the Spanish Tax Lease conferred aid to the intermediaries, or that it had not provided adequate reasoning in this respect.
