The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) and the European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA) are opposing a proposal from the European Commission to collect a fee in order to maintain a programme overseeing ship breaking.
The two groups say the proposed licence fees, which they say will be collected on all ships calling on European Union ports, will cause problems for any country that trades with European Union members.
