Ukrainian bulker and MPP operator Varamar is to accept bitcoins in what could be a sign of things to come in shipping.

The company is negotiating its first deal using the cryptocurrency, according to chief executive Alexander Varvarenko.

He told Bloomberg that bitcoin will make it easier to do business with customers in sanctions-hit countries, while also reducing paperwork.

“Paperwork for transactions is a complicated issue with banks, and bitcoin payments will help solve that by being faster,” Varvarenko said.
