An LNG carrier that hit a submerged reef while en route from Japan to Australia appears to have taken a slightly less used route than that normally followed by ships making similar voyages.
Ship tracking data from Genscape shows the Knutsen OAS Shipping's 173,400-cbm Sevilla Knutsen (built 2010) sailed close to Edarepe Island, one of three islands comprising Eauripik coral atoll in the western Caroline Islands to the southeast of the Philippines in the Pacific Ocean.
