A consortium comprising Vopak, Gasunie and Oiltanking is looking to develop an LNG terminal in northern Germany.
The Dutch and German group has won European Commission approval for a joint venture that could build the facility at Brunsbuttel.
"This decision is a milestone within the feasibility study the companies are currently conducting," Vopak said.
It added that the parties are now ready to jointly work towards the next development phases.
