The company said it had won clearance from the Swedish government for the plant, with construction planned to start next year.

The terminal will store 30,000 cbm and handle up to 500,000 tonnes of gas per year.

“The planned LNG terminal is an important part of the expansion of LNG infrastructure in Sweden and the Baltic Sea,” it said.

A final decision will be taken next spring, with the port of Gavle expected to invest in the infrastructure of the port at the same time.
