The oil major said the tanker will be based in Rotterdam and will load from the new LNG terminal to be constructed by Gas Access to Europe (Gate).
It will be sea-going and able to supply clients in other locations as well, however.
STX Offshore & Shipbuilding of Korea will build the 6,500-cbm ship.
Shell said it had worked closely with customers to develop the specifications.
