Energy major BP has booked the first slot for a full size LNG carrier to transit the newly opened expanded Panama Canal.

News agency Bloomberg reports the Panama Canal Authority detailing that the BP-controlled, 138,208-cbm British Merchant (built 2003) will head to the waterway next month after loading in Trinidad & Tobago.

TradeWinds is reporting this week that the first LNG carrier is due to make history by shipping the first LNG cargo through the Panama Canal on 26 July.
