Queen crowns trio

Three individuals with shipping connections had extra reason to celebrate the arrival of 2013 having been recognised in the New Year honours list.

P&O Ferries CEO Helen Deeble’s champagne would have tasted extra sweet this time around after being awarded a CBE by the Queen.

Deeble, of Canterbury, UK, receives the gong for services to the shipping industry.

Chris Bourne, now chairman of General Lighthouse Authorities, has been honoured with an MBE.

Bourne’s date at the palace will come due to his services to the maritime industry.

Maritime and Coastguard Agency communications manager Richard Wootton also picks up an MBE for services to the Coastguard.

The 2013 honours list was decorated with names which lit up the London Olympics in the summer of 2012.

Jessica Ennis, the goldengirl heptathlete, collected an MBE, and champion sailor Ban Ainslie a CBE.

Tour de France winner and Olympic cycling champion Bradley Wiggins has been handed a CBE.
